Chopin: Etudes

L'édition Schirmer's a toujours été une bonne édition. Le cahier était conforme à mes attentes.

Worst paper quality I've ever seen in a music score. Impossible to keep the pages open. A total waste.

Tutto sommato c'è tutto e la grandezza delle pagine è nella norma ma è la qualità della stampa che è appena sufficiente. Per studiare va bene ma non ci si deve aspettare una buona qualità sia della carta (bianchissima) che dei caratteri. Buon compromesso tra qualità e prezzo. Meglio le ed ricordi o Curci, inarrivabili gli urtext Verlag o Wiener.

I bought this as I had developed a great love for Chopin's Etudes after listening to Idil Biret's performances of them. Inspiring. Uplifting.Perhaps I could play them, I thought, naively. So I bought this excellent Friedheim edition and discovered to my horror just how demanding these pieces are. Harder (in my opinion) than the Waltzes, or Preludes, or even Nocturnes. The fact that I could have been so wide of the mark in my expectations is testimony to the supreme skill of Idil Biret.But what a great piano edition. Everything's very clear (including notation) and very well laid out. The usual battle with the spine aside, this is really good value and I would recommend it to any lover of Chopin. But for me, this is definitely music that I will have to work my way up to, probably over a very long period of time, and probably after much listening to Idil Biret!
