I have several guitars and with that comes some variation in width at the nut and neck. The item arrives well packed in an instructive box, and with a nice tidy bag for it.I've had many types of capo before, roller, the sprung "pliers" type, but one thing I have always insisted on is that there's no chance of damage to the neck or fretboard. I'm pleased to report that this capo fits the bill. The construction is of a fairly hefty metal design, with firm rubber pads for back of neck and fretboard. The mechanism is simple to use and with fast release, this is the first one of this "squeeze to fit" type that I have tried, I have to say that I like it. You quickly get a feel for how much is enough without having to apply excessive compression on the neck. The solid construction does increase the weight of the capo and it's certainly the heaviest one I own, but I don't think that should be held against it, to me that means durability. While not the cheapest I've owned at £24.99 at the time of review, it's certainly one I would consider the best designed and made I own.

This neat looking guitar capo from SONICAKE comes in a very nice box which gives you the immediate impression that it is a good quality product. The box is ideal for storage but a cloth bag is also included, which will take up less room if you need to carry the capo around with you.My trusty old Dunlop capo with an adjustable strap is almost falling apart so it was great to try out a more modern design. With my old capo I have to be careful not to bend the strings out of tune when attaching it, this design makes that much easier since you can just rest the capo over the fretboard and then gently close it to hold the strings down. This is even easier than with the spring-loaded designs which I often need two or three adjustments with to get a good fit. Releasing the capo is also easy with a small lever/switch although the claim that you can do this with one hand while playing would take a bit of practice, the strings make an audible noise when released, I think some damping on the release mechanism would improve this (so the strings are not so suddenly released from tension)This capo is described as being suitable for all guitars but it is really for the more narrow curved fretboards that you get on electric guitars and steel-string acoustic guitars. For wide and flat fretboards like on Spanish/Classical guitars with nylon strings it does not work so well. But even on my Takamine Classical guitar I was able to use the capo up to the 5th fret, but you can definitely notice that the curvature of the capo is slightly raised against the flat fretboard in the middle around the 3rd and 4th strings. You should get a flat capo for these guitars. But this works great on my Washburn electric, all the way up the neck, and also on my Ovation steel-string semi-acoustic. I do play my guitars quite often so I will update my review if I notice anything significant about this capo, hopefully it has a reliable mechanism that will last many years like more traditional capos.

This capo is a nice size, 75mm long (top), 70mm long (bottom), 50mm (open) 20mm (closed) and 13mm wide. It’s not like a standard spring action capo which I’ve always used, this one uses a rachet method which clicks tightly over the strings and released by the push of a switch. The pads are made of a high quality silicone with the main body being a good quality zinc alloy plating chromium surface.Using this is a little different than other capos I’ve used, but it does the same job. Just place this over the neck and string of the guitar, the long pad over the strings, the short bad under the neck, then push the upper and lower section together, like closing a duck’s mouth. You should hear some gentle clicks as the rachet system kicks into action until the right pressure is found. Once in place it won’t move until you want it too.To loosen it, or take it off, just push up the lever on the elbow of the capo and the capo will open up on its own. This can be done with one hand without too much hassle and moved up and down the neck to where you want it.In all, a fine capo which isn’t like most others but does exactly the same as others, if not a little better. But, for me, the price tag is a little too high considering there are others out there at half the price, giving the same results. (Hence the drop of a star)
